How many porta potties does a festival need?
A festival needs attendees ÷ 100 × gate hours ÷ 4 units, × 1.25 when alcohol is sold or the forecast is above 80°F, rounded up once, with 5% of the units accessible in each cluster and one hand wash station per 10 units. A 2,000-person, 8-hour beer festival needs 50 units including 3 accessible and 5 hand wash stations, or 25 units with mid-day pumping.
| Attendees | 4-hour event | 8-hour day | 8 hours with alcohol | Accessible (5%) | Hand wash |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | 5 | 10 | 13 | 1 | 1–2 |
| 1,000 | 10 | 20 | 25 | 2 | 2–3 |
| 2,000 | 20 | 40 | 50 | 3 | 4–5 |
| 5,000 | 50 | 100 | 125 | 7 | 10–13 |
The City of Bethlehem's own guideline is two chemical toilets per 500 attendees, which is the legal floor for a city permit; events using that minimum see 15-minute lines at peak. Use the calculator for your numbers and the PSAI standard for the full chart.
How are festival clusters laid out and serviced?
Festival units go in clusters of 5 to 15 at the main stage, food court, beer garden and parking entrance, each with an accessible unit at the path end and a hand wash station in front. The service truck pumps every cluster at 6 AM before gates and again mid-afternoon on peak days, which keeps tanks under half full and odor down.
- Site walk. We walk the map with you 2–4 weeks out and mark clusters, truck lanes and the vendor gate.
- Delivery day before. Units arrive the day before gates open, placed per the map, each cluster staked on exposed ground.
- Service during the event. 6 AM pump and restock; mid-afternoon second visit on days over 6 hours. $35 per unit per visit.
- Overnight. Hasps on every unit; solar lights in clusters that run past dark.
- Pickup. Morning after the last day, inside your permit window.
What do festival porta potties cost?
Festival pricing uses the weekend event rate per unit, $225 standard, $325 deluxe, $325 accessible, $95 per hand wash station, for events up to three days, plus $35 per unit per service visit. Orders of 10 or more units get a volume rate on the quote. Delivery and pickup are included within 15 miles of Bethlehem; one flat route fee applies beyond that. Pennsylvania sales tax is 6%.
A 20-unit, two-day festival in Bethlehem with 1 accessible unit, 2 hand wash stations and two service visits therefore prices out on the quote line by line, with no fuel surcharge and no per-unit delivery fee. The pricing guide has the fee table.
Festival porta potties: questions before you book
How many porta potties does a festival need per 1,000 people?
Ten units per 1,000 attendees for a 4-hour window, 20 for an 8-hour day, plus 25% if beer is sold, plus 5% accessible units per cluster and one hand wash station per 10 units. For a two-day event, mid-day and overnight pumping lets you keep the same count instead of doubling it.
Do you pump units during a multi-day festival?
The service truck comes at the hour you choose, typically 6 AM before gates open and once mid-afternoon on peak days, at $35 per unit per visit. We pump, wipe, restock and re-deodorize, and we text the organizer a count of units serviced.
Can you deliver to Musikfest, SteelStacks or Sand Island vendor areas?
For vendor, sponsor and private-tent areas that bring their own restrooms. Musikfest runs 10 days starting the Friday before the first Saturday in August (July 30–August 9, 2026). The City's Special Event Application names the restroom provider and setup window, and street placement needs the Engineering right-of-way permit. Book by June for August dates.
What about Christkindlmarkt or winter markets?
Christkindlmarkt runs on weekends from mid-November into December at SteelStacks. For winter vendor areas we winterize units with non-toxic antifreeze and recommend a heated restroom trailer for staff. Average January lows in Bethlehem are about 22°F, so flush and sink water needs the antifreeze mix.
Where do the accessible units go at a festival?
One in every cluster, on the firmest ground, at the end of the row nearest the accessible parking or the main path, with a 36-inch clear route. The 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 require at least 5% of each cluster to be accessible; the City of Bethlehem repeats the 5% figure in its Special Event Application.
Do food vendors each need a hand wash station?
In Bethlehem, every temporary food facility needs a functioning hand-washing station with running water, soap and towels under the City Bureau of Health rules; hand sanitizer alone is not accepted. One Bravo station serves two adjacent vendor stalls if it sits between them, which is how most vendor rows are laid out.
How do you handle a fenced festival site with gate times?
We deliver the day before gates open and pick up the morning after, inside the window on your permit. Give us the vendor gate location and the site contact's cell, and tell us whether units must be moved by hand inside the fence (we dolly up to 100 feet on firm ground).
