How many porta potties do I need for an event?
Plan one standard unit per 100 guests (or one deluxe flushing unit per 75) multiplied by event hours ÷ 4, multiply by 1.25 when alcohol is served or the forecast is above 80°F, and round up once. Make at least 5% of each cluster wheelchair accessible (minimum one at a public event) and add one hand wash station per 10 units. A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 4 units at the deluxe rate: 3 deluxe and 1 accessible.
| Guests | 4 hours | 6 hours | 8 hours | With alcohol (4 hrs) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 100 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 150 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 2 |
| 250 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 4 |
| 500 | 5 | 8 | 10 | 7 |
| 1,000 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 13 |
Method: guests ÷ 100 × hours ÷ 4 (× 1.25 with alcohol), rounded up once. The PSAI special-events chart behind it assumes one use per person per 4 hours and a 50/50 gender mix with no pumping during the event. The City of Bethlehem permit guideline is lower, two units per 500 people, and is the legal minimum for a city permit; the table above is what keeps the line under five minutes. What permits and rules apply to events in Bethlehem?
Events on City of Bethlehem property need a Special Event Application (30 days ahead, $100) reviewed by the Special Events Review Team; it asks for your restroom provider and recommends two portable toilets per 500 attendees with 5% accessible. Food vendors need a Bethlehem Health Bureau license and a hand-washing station with running water. Street or sidewalk placement needs a separate Engineering right-of-way permit.
| Where | Permit | Restroom language | Lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Bethlehem parks, streets, Sand Island, Rose Garden | Special Event Application | 2 toilets per 500 people recommended; 5% accessible; service multi-day events | 30 days (60 with road closures); 5,000+ attendees need a PA Special Event Plan 60 days out |
| Bethlehem Township parks | Township Special Events Application | Asks whether you will place additional restrooms | 60 days |
| Lower Saucon Township property | Special Event Policy | No ratio stated; $25 fee, $250 deposit | 60 days |
| Lehigh County parks | Park Policies / Special Event Application | 1 portable toilet per 50–100 people; at least 1 accessible | 30 days; insurance 21 days |
| Northampton County parks (Louise W. Moore) | Pavilion / facility permit | Park restrooms open April–October; portable toilets on site October–April | Book via RecDesk |
These are the rules as published; they are not legal advice. Confirm the current form with the permit office before you book units, and tell us the setup and pickup times you wrote on the application so the delivery matches it.
Where should event porta potties be placed?
Put event units 50 to 100 feet from food and the main seating, downwind, on firm level ground our truck can reach within 25 feet, with the doors facing a path and not the crowd. Keep accessible units on the firmest, flattest spot with a 36-inch clear route. Add a hand wash station between the toilets and the food line so guests pass it on the way back.
- Backyards: the driveway edge or the side yard by the hose spigot; a PJN3 fits through a 48-inch gate.
- Tents and barns: behind the tent on the service side, with solar lights if the event runs past dark.
- City streets (block parties): in a marked parking space with the Engineering permit, never on the sidewalk.
- Parks: at the lot edge nearest the pavilion; we hand-dolly units up to 100 feet on paths.
Special event restrooms: questions before you book
How much is a porta potty for a one-day event?
$225 for a standard unit and $325 for a deluxe flushing unit, delivered Friday and picked up Monday, with delivery and pickup included within 15 miles of Bethlehem. There is no one-day rate because the unit is out of service for the whole weekend either way. PA sales tax of 6% is added.
My event is Saturday. When do you deliver and pick up?
Friday delivery between 8 AM and 4 PM, Monday pickup. If you need the unit gone Sunday morning, say so when you book and we schedule a Sunday pickup for $45. For a Sunday event we still deliver Friday and pick up Monday at the same price.
Can I get the unit delivered the morning of the event?
For a Monday-to-Friday event, yes: morning delivery between 7 and 10 AM is a route option in the Lehigh Valley. For Saturday events we deliver Friday because Saturday routes fill with pickups; if you have a theft concern, we add a hasp and padlock free and hand you the key Friday.
Does the event unit get cleaned during the party?
Not unless you book a mid-event service. The unit arrives pumped, washed, deodorized and stocked. For events over 6 hours or more than 100 guests per unit we recommend a mid-event refresh at $35 per unit, which pumps, wipes and restocks in about 10 minutes.
What permits does an event in a Bethlehem park need?
A City of Bethlehem Special Event Application through the Special Events Review Team, filed 30 days ahead (60 days if city staff or road closures are needed), $100 fee. The application names your portable restroom provider and setup and pickup times, and it recommends two toilets per 500 attendees with 5% accessible. Bethlehem Township and Lower Saucon Township have their own 60-day applications.
Do I need to be there when you deliver?
No. Put a cone or a note where you want the unit, tell us about gates and dogs, and the driver calls 30 minutes ahead and texts a photo of the placed unit. For school and church grounds we coordinate with the custodian's hours.
What if it rains and I cancel?
Cancel by 3 PM the business day before delivery for a full refund. Cancel after the truck is loaded and we charge only the $65 delivery fee. Weather moves inside the house all the time in April; we would rather you call than guess.
Can you deliver to a pavilion at Louise Moore Park or Lehigh Parkway?
Northampton County's Louise W. Moore Park and Lehigh County's parks both allow permittee-supplied portable toilets. Lehigh County's special event application requires one portable toilet per 50 to 100 people depending on event length and at least one accessible unit. We deliver to the parking lot edge nearest your pavilion and walk the unit in.
